The car is finished for now. In the future we want to completely revise the engine and gearbox. As it stands they are ok but they have to be like new Tongue Me and 3 other people are in the process of buying an 80's volvo to practice on so for now the attention will shift to that. My new study (about cars) is far away so the 86 will be safely stored in my grandparents garage, and driven occasionally when I get home.

edit; it has the stickers on it but these were taken a while ago

also had a go in the BRZ (the red one) , be it as a passenger but still alot of fun! My friend took me to daiba where they had some sort of car exposition.

It lives once more! Can't believe it has been 11 years since i bought it.

Its been in storage for a couple of years. Tomorrow I'm taking it to the garage (replaced oil coolant and fuel and checked belts for cracks, upped tire pressure and installed a new battery). The last thing i learned is that it doesnt have a t50 gearbox but presumably one from some kind of family carConfused I will post a pic tomorrow, maybe some of you can identify it. I hope it will survive the 30 min drive to the shop.

Why do you think that it's a family car's gearbox?

There's only a k50 from an 4a engined AE70 available which fits which is a downgrade. All other boxes are better then a t50 would be.

That's just a quote from the last person who saw the undercarriage and didn't know what it was. I suppose it didn't look all that impressive.

A T50 doesn't look all that impressive indeed, as do most gearboxes in my opinion Smile so i can imagine the comment.

If you compare it to a W5x, R154 or J160 gearbox it's indeed quite ordinary in size... Big Grin
The T series gearbox dates all the way back to early 1970s when they were used on the first generation Celica's and Carina's, and they were probably developed somewhere mid-1960s. So yeah, by the time they found their application in the AE86 (and AA63/AT141) they were a bit overdue for replacement. Tongue

Hah you were right doc, it's a T50. Strange, the guy who made the comment has worked on ae86s before. It would not have surprised me if it were a different gearbox because the car used to be an automatic. Maybe he referred to the insides or maybe my memory is shot.

The fifth gear is so short! Atleast now with the new speed limit I won't stand out anymore when I go 100km/h.

It's also the same with the Altezza/IS200: very short sixth gear.
In Japan the speed limit used to be 100km/h up to last year, so that gearing makes much more sense over there. Back in the 1980s the official speed limit in the Netherlands was 100km/h, and back then it also made a lot more sense to have shorter 5th.
