16 inch wheels?
Hi everybody.
Recently I wanted to inprove my breaking performance. I almost decided to buy 3T break set. But it requires 15 inch wheels or bigger. I found nice set of 16 inch +5 Hoshino wheels. What do you think about the size? Is there any negative effect to the driving beside the more expensive tires?
Do you have any experience with 16 inch ?

peter

The offset looks wrong for ae86 but then I don't know the width. They look like something off an S13 or similar. You might need some big ass spacers.

If you look closely you will notice that the center of the wheel is quite deep. I think they will fit just fine Smile

You will have less comfort on 16...

i think 16s are great... can run lower profile tyres... so less side wall flex... bigger tyres so more grip...from both the rear and front... 15s are getting on the small side these days... ill upgrade to a 16 inch wheel in due time

I would buy them, they will fit, they will look good, hard to loose grip on the rear end though, thats the only -,

An 86 is for Life, not just for Christmas

how could he experience power decrease ? you mean depending on the weight of the rim and tyre its mass effects its moment of inertia.

most 16" rims are of newer design and there weights are lighter in most cases than some old school lump. also 16" being a more common size now than 15" and 14" you can get the latest tyres which once again are lighter.

i have gone from 205/50/15 semis on works rims to 225/45/16 semis on r32gtr rims and there is a .25kg increase in weight and over 12% per tyre area more

but why hasn't anyone thought about the fitting problems with such small inner guard areas ?

improvedae86,

weight on the first place. I have 14", 15" and 16" wheels and can tell my 14" are way lighter. (my 16" are OZ Racing F1 16x7,5 - medium wight rim)
My 14" have 195/60/14 and the 16" have 215/40/16.

Next - the weight of the 16" rim (especially if newer lighter model like ultralegera for example with low profile tyre) is distributed further from the center than the weight of 14".

Finally, (probably) the overall diameter of 16" wheels will be a little bigger than 14" (or 15") trading some power for higher top speed.
