Parts crossreference list
Hey Guys,

I was wondering, is there already, or could we start making a parts cross reference list?

The DeLorean club has done this for the DeLorean because alot of parts for the DeLorean have been used in other cars aswell just with a different label and since there aren't any supliers anymore we need to know what are direct swaps and what can be swapped in with few modifications.

Lets say I need a new altenator, I now know I can get it from this and this renault, or this and this volvo. Very handy when strolling around a junkyard.

Now when you look at japanese cars this very often applies aswell as many car manufacturers get things like altenators from the same source companies.

Also near direct fits are pretty cool to have a list for aswell. I know that I can fit a radiator with electric fan from a late 80s model Mazda 626 in my RX7. Knowing the premium prices for RX7 radiators.....Smile Also upgrades are known, I can put an FD altenator in an FC without problems, while the FC altenator just about gives enough power the FD one has power to spare.

I wouldn't mind knowing which other cars I can source altenators, radiators, starter motors, water pumps, axles, differentials, driveshafts, calipers, etc. from, possibly at a fraction of the price for original AE86 parts.

So what do you guys think? It would be easy to get some sort of system online where we can create a cross reference list....

Hmmm, interesting... Maybe we can make a database which uses phpbb for user management, so only members can enter data into the database?

1982 - TA60 Carina 4dr sedan - fun cruiser
1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project
2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver
2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain

What about the parts for modification (for example - shorter shocks - fronts from Fiat Argenta can be used as 30mm shorter shocks as rears to AE86) ? Maybe the cross-ref db must contain free text "notes" field for each record ?

Thats what I was thinking off. Basically a table of original parts with a detail table with alternative parts.

Jamie yes that is very important.

I see the original parts list simply being:
Description
Toyota part number (optional)
Thumbnail (optional)

And the detail table as:
Type: 0 = exact fit, 1 = small adjustments, 2 = large adjustments
Make of car (i.e. Mazda/Toyota/Fiat)
Type of car (i.e. RX7, argenta, etc)
Model year(s) (i.e. 1984-1986)
Model ID (i.e. Zenki/Kouki or S4 or S5 or something like that)
Free note field (i.e. instructions on how to install or what to alter)
Thumbnail (optional)

Nice initiative. Please note that cars often have different names across europe (for example, I've never heard of the fiat argenta).
I've been searching for cheaper differential carrier bearings since toyota quoted me 60 euro's EACH for the side bearings on the lsd.
It seems that SKF bearing part.nrs LM501349/LM501310 are a correct fit. They come up as front wheel bearings on some sites for ford models, so the forces they are made to resist should be correct. The two part no's are for roller bearing and outer bearing shell. Should be around 40 US dollars but I'll try to find out for sure.
