cooling problems

Typically, the radiator thermostat will start to open at 82-85 deg and
be fully open at >90 deg. This indicates that the thermostat is trying to
maintain an engine temperature between 85 and 90 degrees. It does
this by adjusting the amount of water flowing thru the radiator.

Electrically operated fans are normally off when the car is traveling at
any reasonable speed. The flow of air thru the radiator is sufficient for
engine cooling. The fan should really only turn on when the car is
stuck in traffic, and there is no airflow thru the radiator due to movement
of the vehicle.

Try locating the temperature switch in a cooler part of the water circuit.
The bottom of the radiator is much cooler than the top. All the factory
temperature switches I have seen are either near the bottom of the
radiator, or in the return pipe.

Don't put your switch in the hose taking water to the radiator !!! If you
do it will run all the time and be really annoying Tongue
