VVt trigger on a silvertop.

It has two wires from it from, I take it one is 12 volt supply and the other will activate when switched to ground. I can trigger from various things on the ECU, just wondering if there was any benefit from triggering early. Heard something about Honda V-tecs making more power with Vtec controllers and vtec switching early.
