Eliminate the battery....

If the battery is OK, then it is time to pull the starter out and get it
overhauled. Being a DC motor, you can have problems with worn or
sticking brushes, worn commutator, faulty segments etc. If it sucks
enough current from a healthy battery to turn the clock off, there will
be some arcing or burning happening somewhere Confused
