Idle speed problem

Less air equals lower idle speed....
If the thermostatic idle-up valve (under the throttle body) is
working, the idle speed should DROP as the engine warms up. That is, the valve should close and reduce the amount of air allowed to bypass the throttle butterfly (round metal plate etc). You can check the effect of the idle-up valve by blocking the intake hole to the valve with your finger while the engine is running. When cold the engine idle speed should drop by approximately 1000 rpm. When hot the drop should be approximately 100 rpm.
