LSD Install: Cusco MZ 2way

I ordered my LSD through Speed Industries.
Very good service and fast delivery!
Also got 3 liters of Valvoline 80w90 GL-5 LS oil. (diff capacity is 1,3L)


These are the tools I used.
Numbers 12 for the diff casing and 14 for the brake callipers and half shafts.
And 24 for the fill plugs.


Jack car:


Drain the oil:


Remove wheels, brake calipers and brake disks. Then undo 4 bolts that hold the halfshafts and pull them out.


On one side I had to use a special tool because I couldn't pull the halfshaft out that easily.


Then unbolt the driveshaft and the +/- 10 screws around the diff and pull the diff out. (watch out it's quite heavy)

The bearings on each side of the old lsd are difficult to take off.
I just bought a new set. 2x LM501349 and 2xLM501310

Next step is to take the ring of the old lsd and put it on the new one.
First unbolt the 8 screws on top. And then tap it out.

Then you have to heat up the ring so that it expands a bit to slip over the new lsd. Do not heat the ring over 130 celsius. (says the manual)

The lock plates that hold the bolt on the old diff, don't fit the cusco diff.
I just used some loctite on the bolts instead. Torque to 96 N-m.

No comes the tricky part. Putting the new lsd with ring back in. The important thing is to adjust it just right that the ring and pinion are straight on each other. Because I didn't have the measuring equipment nor the professional experience I brought the diff to Toyota. They worked on it for 1,5 hours and charged me 100euro!!! But they did a good job.

I used some liquid gasket around the diff and put everything back together. Easy jod:


Fill it up to the fill plug and you're done!

Oh yeah. After installing you should break the new LSD in.
Drive 8 figures for half an hour...not much fun I can tell you...haha.

OK now how does it drive.
First off...I was very carefull the whole time.
When driving very slow and letting the clutch go slowly, you hardly notice any difference. No noise or anything. I was quite happy about that because I read on several forums that aggressive LSD's as the Cusco MZ are noisy as hell. (Cusco RS is supposed to be more quite/softer)
But when giving a bit more throttle in slow turns/ roundabout you start hearing and feeling the LSD pushing the car to one side/ locking the wheels.
