It maybe cheaper to ship em, but its no fun at all.
As I expleined by pm, visiting Greece by car will give you the change to explore the mainland which has beautifull mountains and beaches as well as archaiological sites. And believe me, greek island might be famous as summer destinations, but they are very crowdy, expensive and half as beautifull as the mainland is...
