T50 gearboxes compared
Today, while trying to tidy up a big shed, to get some space to move some stuff around, throw some stuff away etc. etc. we found 6 T50 gearboxes.

We spent about 1,5 hour comparing all the boxes.
So i made some pics to clear up some things.

At first for side shots of the gearboxes:

Old Celica, probably TA23.
2T bellhouse and a tail with the shifter bolted on in the middle of the tailpiece.

AE86.
4A bellhouse, and a tail with the shifter at the end of the tail with a circlip.

Celica AA63 GTS.

Probably TE71.

This is an old bellhouse with an 80's style tailpiece, so that's why i think about TE71.

A pic from the bellhouses.

The difference in length of the T50 tailpieces:

zero to none i guess Wink

Also the position of the gearbox supports are exactly the same

So the only real difference in the tailpieces is the place where the shifter comes out of the box. It should be possible to use both types on any car, if the splines on the output shaft would be the same. Only need to cut a hole in the floor then Smile
The place where the shift nob is, is around the same place at both boxes, because the old box has it's shifter angled towards the rear.

We compared the boxes itself to, but there weren't any real differences (otherwise it wouldn't be a T50 for sure Big Grin).
Only some plugs changed/went to another place on the box.

So basicly, you can buy any T50 gearbox (saw one go for 35 euro's on ebay lately Big Grin) and swap you own bellhouse and tailpiece if neccesary (spelling?).

So that was a lesson from Dr. Doc Hurray!
See if we can pull some more interesting bits out of the 100m^2 shed in the upcoming weeks Big Grin
