Greek AE86 restoration/modification (pics)

Back from the dead to let you know where I'm at.

Since September, I went to the track once more (about 2 months ago), despite the state of the gearbox. There was an Italian Citroen C2 S1600 on track wich was rented by a Greek for a race and was tested by a greek auto magazine. I warmed my car up nicely and started to increase pace, here's what happened:

-1st lap: 4th gear would not stay engaged unless throttle < 50%

-2nd lap: excessive clutch slip on corner exits on 2nd and 3rd gear. Excessive force required to engage gears.

-3rd lap: impossible to drive the car, exit to pits.

-In the pits: I let her cool down for 30mins and backed off to try once more. Then the Italian mechanic fixing the S1600 shouts something and I stop. He kneels down puts his finger on the tarmac and brings it to his nose. I get out of the car. He says "olio cambio" and then "seconda-terza, terza-quarta cambio GRAU!". I understand that I'll probably walk home with the gearbox in bits if I continue. I drive off carefully and park the car for the last 2 months.

So here's the situation: I'm looking for a used BUT not "repaired" gearbox to replace the "repaired" one. The idea is to get it through a mechanic that will source the box, install it and be totally responsible for it. That includes him taking back in case it's faulty. Prices for the T50 in Greece are in the 200-300 EURO range. The money is waiting in my bank, but it seems gearboxes are hard to come by these days, so I guess I'll just have to wait. In the meantime, my battery's gone, my tires are probaly flatspoted and dogs now piss on my wheels to mark their territory, as they do with permanently stationery objects, such as walls, trees, etc

So, not really an update, but at least you get the picture...
