PC problem, NEED HELP!!!

Ok, in my PC at home (Pentium 3 @ something), I use Windows98

I have 2 USB ports (USB 1.0 I guess).

In one of them i have connected the Modem,
and I use the second one for my USD memory stick.

I tried to connect severall USB HUBS, that convert 1 usb port to 4.

I tried to different hubs, both USB2.0 and none of them worked...

I thought, "ok, they oer USB2.0, my pc has USB1.0, they are not combatible"

Today, when I found a USB 1.1 HUB, I thought that will do.

Guess what?
That's not working either

Devices alone work fine, so ports also work fine.
Probably the computer dont recognizes the HUB.

Anybody knows why????
