Brake discs - what mark to use?

I have to agree with the cross drilled/slotted discs being a fancy way of selling a product, with no obvious advantage. I have seen new´ish discs with holes that have cracked after only very few miles of hard driving.
Ofcourse a racecar driver would be more concerned on light weight and fast gas disposal rather than lasting pads and discs. I guess
