With the order, 50% of the car had to be paid via deposit. The other half after a couple of months' time for the car to arrive.
By then, some of the teams were not able to meet the order and cars would get either to other teams, or license plates to be sold as a regular order.

That's why all 2 doors come with LSD (they were supposed to go for tracks, and rallies).

Very interesting! So that means all Portugese 3 doors with LSD had their internals swapped?
Also I recently bumped into an auction at Catawiki with two scale models of Portugese rally cars and the models were also made in Portugal and one of the two was a two door Corolla Twin Cam 16 valve. So that definitely fits in your (his)story!
