Family man's ae86
Sorry lads i lost tapatalk for a while.
Lots has been happening and progress has been made. I'll do a quick shoot through of where im at, but if you want any details hit me up and I'll try and answer anything. ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk So been a while. I lost tapatalk for a bit after PayPal fucked my account. Anyways, once the worst of winter seemed over, I've managed a solid few weeks of progress. Old girl is dangerously close to some sort of achievement. I needed to relocate the car a bit for access to the front. Hence the gratuitous shot on 4 wheels. So i set about figuring out the engine position ans stuff. Gave up trying to be tricky abd used 20mm crossmember spacers for clearance. (Its ok, its treated pine..... :/ only temp to work out sizing. ) The eyeball work i did early on started to come back to bite me, with the shift position being too far forward. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk So set about making the engine and box a permamnat resident of the car. Started with the box end and worked forward. Clearance looks a bit tight iver the steering shaft, but its near 10mm at the closest Random colors simply cos i ran out of black lol made me a yondu bracket. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk As you can see in the last pics, the eyeball drug induced guestimations I did early on just keep on giving. The extractors were so badly on the piss lol. But I stoiclly ignored that and went on with the engine mounts. And thats the engine in its final spot. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sump clearance is okkkkkkk..... im gonna use a slimmer bolt and weld a small v shield informed of the bolt. It sits about 4 or5 mm below the cross member line. Also took the chance to finish off the front half of the exhaust. Made a poor mans slip joint at the front, And even out the rear bumper on to see how bad that build had gone lol. Actually was pretty good lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Had a small victory with the stearing uni joint. Had been stressing over how to make up the difference with the dropped crossmember . In the end, I randomly tried a second uni joint from the other crossmember, turned out it was perfectly 20mm longer . Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk So I had to set about moving the shifter back a bit. As it sat, tbe gear stick was hard against the radio in 1st and 3rd lol Also sorted the reattachement of the radiator support panel. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Needed trumpets for the throttles. This posed a problem s I had clearance issues with the brake booster and the bonnet lol. Eventuslly I plan on a booster delete to gain the space needed for a decent plenum, but for now, i present "the winky wonky donkey dicks" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk One of my lesser moments was turning the old girl over on the rotiserie before i had the car port up lol. She filled with so much water i had to drill a small hole in the roof as a drain lol.. But that left the roof lining a bit worse for wesr. A few days with the heater going and a can of Mr sheen later, its came up not too shit lol. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk One of my lesser moments was turning the old girl over on the rotiserie before i had the car port up lol. I chopped her to bits and set about doing it in the car. Am using more slip joints for ease of making. And thats about it... need to sort a tailshaft out, and a million little bits and pieces, but she is progressing solidly. Hit a wall with the wiring. I'm just not confident enough with an entirely new skill lol. So a mate is gknna come and help me with that bit once the rest is sorted. I also have some rust work that needs doing, but its all easy to do while the csr is driving. At the moment, driving is the main goal. I can sort little bits like the longer lca and rust and proper trumpets and filter etc then. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk So todays adventure were modest. I had hopes for getting the radiator mounting sorted. I used some commonwhore lower mounts (cheapest things i could find ) and made a bracket that bolts onto the lower sill. Had no idea how i was ganna make it work, but fumbled my way through the top mountz also. Figured i should chuck the bonnet on and see if things fit. Turns out i was a bit preemptive with winky wonly donky dicks, and the straight trumoets fits under the bonnet. So i have ummed and ahhed for ages about wanting to do a booster delete. I couldnt afford the grand chase bays wants for their tidy little setup. But did some thinking and measuring and have bitten the bullet on a plan. If i redrill the pedal 25mm further up, i gain a pedal ratio of 6.1 to 1. That seems the go to for manual brakes. Ive ordered a bm44 2 port master, a chunk of aluminium for the adaptor plate, and am waiting on a gktech abs delete hose kit. This kit should bolt everything up and finalise the brake setup (lines anyways lol) the booster delete means i should be able to remove the last of the winky wonky donkey dicks lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk clutch kick, switch, tree .... oowwww |
