You can't use the differential assembly without a spacer or crush tube. If
you do, you risk serious damage to the CW&P and the pinion bearings.
The spacer or crush tube is there to lock the two bearings solidly together
with the specified torque applied to the pinion nut. You cannot torque the
nut and lock the shaft in position without a spacer or crush tube.
