Crush tube is compressed (crushed) on purpose until the required
preload on the bearings is achieved. It does not use shims.

Solid spacer does not crush. Shims are added or subtracted and the
assembly torqued up to achieve the required preload. The process mey
have to be repeated several times until the preload is correct.

The two items cannot be compared by length.
