Back in the day when they could be sourced easily the competitive
teams were changing 5.375 ratios regularly, every three rallies typically

The differential cooler helped to some degree but the low ratio remained a
problem until the end.

Maybe with modern oils etc. they're not such a problem anymore ?

I'm running a 4.778 in my tarmac rally car with either a standard T50 or a Quaife Ford type 9
The ratios in the Quaife 'box are still a bit too high for the final drive even
with 200 / 53 /13 tyres
A 5.1 would be much better, probably with the T50 too.
