Revs going up and down...

Meh... tried the TPS today - didnt really work for me...
Do you have to let the engine run and then play with it a bit or can you also shift it when not started to have any effect? Then I reset the ECU - still revs going up and down but sometimes it idled very nicely but that was short-lived. Driving around didnt help either. Sometimes it was idling PERFECT and then all of a sudden when waiting for a train to pass or at the stop-lights it went down and almost out again. I should probably go to somebody to tune my car.
