AE86 has a crooked steering column OEM?!

Am i going crazy or is that some sort of serial fault? My steering wheel/column asembly is tilted slightly to the left, but all the brackets seem to be in order - plus there is no side to side adjustment. The plastic blinker asembly cover just barely clears the dashbord on the left, but there is like a 2 cm gap on the right (keyhole) side.

I tried bending the upper steering coulumn bracket but everything just gets twisted and it doesnt look good. I would have to redril the bracket and move the holes 1 cm to the left to get everything to be aligned centre. Is it just mine or is this a common problem?

Btw, the steering works just fine.
