AE86 on Meth

i dont get whats the purpose of this kind of 3 link on a driftcar.
if i understand it correctly this upper link is a damper which enables the whole rear axle to turn forward on braking and shift down, to decrease the possibility blocking the wheels etc.
imho this would be good on a track car but on a driftcar it just unables you to brake that hard and that directly and almost impossible to make a shift lock drift.

oh and the brake discs looks crazy. there must be some kind of trick. would like to know why they look like that
