Its purpose is to provide a small amount of extra air to help, among other things, the engine to start. It usually allows filtered air from the intake ducting into one of the small vacuum connectors on the throttle body. Some engines will also have a vacuum operated "throttle lifter" on the side of the throttle body. This has a little spring-operated rod that pushes the throttle slightly open when you turn the engine off. Once the engine starts, engine vacuum acting on a diaphragm, retracts the rod so that it does not interfere with normal idle. Both of these devices are designed to save you having to crack the throttle open when starting. But check you timing anyway ![]() Cheers... jondee86 |
