acid gets into places where it will not get out, eventually eating it's way through protective layers and becoming a cause of rust. Not the best method to strip paint. There is one where you dip the car in a solvent (called loog in dutch, lye or something similarly sounding in english), that is supposed to be better. This will only remove paint, so you can spot the rust easily and remove it yourself.
