Well, the baby steps continue. Had a bit of time to work on it today so I started installing the sound deadening to the firewall.

I'm using Silent Coat but I have the really thin (2mm) variant, must admit I was hoping it would dampen more than it actually seems to be doing. Might need to double up on it in critical areas. I also have foam noise insulation pads to go on top of the butyl mats but those are not going on the firewall since it has its special big insulation mat going on it eventually.




I think I will add some thermal insulation to the gearbox / exhaust area since I remember 86's like to get toasty there.

Next up (most likely): I will start restoring my HVAC related boxes at home (new foam everywhere, give the ventilator a good once-over, replace carbon brushes if required, get the heater core cleaned and checked).

Nice to see some progress again! I can say the transmission tunnel can get pretty hot on my passenger side, so extra insulation can't hurt.

This reminds me I still need to take apart my interior and place the sound-deadening I bought over a year ago. When my car was welded up at the rear arches, most sound-deadening was removed and I reckon it will make a difference in noise.
