not charging?

my 86 is being really poo altenator light came on then drained my battery dead so left it on charge over night and replaced the altenator no charge light showed before if turned the car on and dosnt show even when on but still draining the battery cheved all the wiring and is all fine anyone out there know what the problem could be? :S

i used a fwd 4age altenator fited right on didnt see and diffrence between the two ive also repalced the brushes on it to

Check the voltage across the battery when the engine is running, then
check it again when the engine is off.

When the battery is charged, take the plug out of the alternator and leave
it out while the car is parked. See if the battery still discharges.
