driving capabilities with a wider rear?
Can somebody tell me what will happen to the driving capabilities of a hachi when you widen up your rear. In the near future I will have to let my rear fenders restored and don't know what to do yet.

I have some 15 x 8,5J offset -21 wheels laying in my room and the ones mounted right now are 15 x 8J offset -2. I like the driving capabilities of my current setup, but will it change drasticly if I mount those wider wheels when I choose wider fenders? The lower offset and wider wheels will increase the trackwidth 5 cm in total. I will mount the same tires on it so that wont make the difference. I want to keep the front as same as it is now, but what will happen when the rear is extended like this?? Dumb question

By the way: my driving preferences are GRIP, no DRIFT

I have much wider rear and front allso, it is now spinning much easier, and it is harder to control it during drift, but grip is much better

yeah, i experienced it too when i changed my wheels from 15x7 offset +20 all around to 15x8 offset -2 rear and 15x7.5 offset -8.
Grip became much and much better, but i did front an rear at the same time.

Now i only want to widen up the rear, so not the front. I wonder if it will understeer a lot more or lets say gives you the feeling of understeer because of the increase of rear grip.

naturally rear grip increases in your case. by how much, i dare not speculate. But 5 cms is not little so i guess it will be noticable. but then again since the rear wheels are limited in adjustability (solid axle) you may be able to adjust the front to match the increased grip in the rear.

i guess you mean harder damper setting at the front and less camber because the body will roll less?

well i'm no expert, but i believe its much more complicated than that. first you have to figure out your curent status. do you like it, is there too much oversteer/understeer and in wich phase of the curve. to correct understeer usually means more negative front camber and soften front shocks (stiffen bump.)

here is a list of corrections you can make. In the end its all about balance and what makes you comfortable to push the car hard.

Thats why i'm keeping my suspension pretty basic at the beggining, so i have little variables to mess with (only tyre pressure, front toe, front caster), than i can add parts that allow more adjustability as i learn what i need/want.
