Wheel alignment settings for the track
Hi guys,
What wheel settings you are using for the track for your ae86?
I have been using ae86 for drifting mainly, so high camber was just fine. However now turning more to a circuit and I do get a feeling that the settings for the front wheel alignment may not be ideal for the track.
Would be great to hear what you think about this.
Thanks! Smile

Depends on the track and tire type. I usualy used around 1.5 camber sometimes more, rarely less.

1.5 Camber sounds good for a starting point....

Too bad we can't camber in the rear.... damn Smile

also consider about just a bit of toe out for better response and cornering, in expense of the straight line stability .

A friend of mine uses this setting:

Long circuit:
Camber - 1.5
Toe - 0
Caster - 0

Short circuits:
Camber - 2
Toe - 0
Caster - 0

If your driving is halfway decent 1 to 1.5 degrees of negative camber will not be enough. If you take temps I'm guessing you'll end up somewhere 3 degrees plus. Probably more than 4.

The only way to know for sure is to either buy a tire pyrometer and take temps after sessions or to buy ultrasoft compound tires that wear down in one to two trackdays (and see if inner tire wear is in check).

For example, my miata on Rcomps needs 3 degrees negative with better camber curves than the AE86 ever came with. I'm thinking you'll need at least a degree static camber on top of that to overcome the McPherson handicap.

With that said, hitting the optimum is not that important. The car drives mostly fine with suboptimal settings, it just eats into the tire budget if its too far out of whack.

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

Thanks guys for your advice! Seems that i will have to play with the settings a bit. Once the car is driven on different tracks and country roads there won't be one setting to fit all, but any way judging on what you have said there is definitely some space for improvement Smile
