Steering experiment
steering rack centering.
The general rule of finding the centre of the steering rack is to wind the steering wheel from full lock to full lock, count the turns and then divide by two. Alternatively you can accurately measure the rack protrusion from the rack housing at each end and ensure they are the same. I did the measuring method as stated above, centred the steering wheel, set the alignment and then went for a drive. It was horrible ![]() It seems that the steering rack is slightly off centre by design and the only way to get it right is to ensure both track rod adjusters are showing exactly the same amount of thread. (mentioned in the FSM) Once I did this the car was transformed and the steering wheel was off centre by around 25 degrees. Worth a 2 minute check I reckon An analogue brain in a digital World |
