Starter problems
You reach the contact just with unscrewing two screws at the back of the starter and removing the metal cap.
I've made the new contact myself, you only need a piece of copper about 2.5mm thick and some ammount of patience...

I used the second method to take the starter in and out. I didn't have to go under the car to reach the heat shield's screw to unscrew the shield. A also removed the oil filter, to put one hand under the exhaust header.

To get the starter out of the engine bay is complicated, as Ivan already described, but to get the starter back in is twice more complicated. This is because you have to screw the starter's shield when the starter is already inside (under the exhaust header). So you don't see the screw, as in my case the lower exhaust heatshield wasn't dissasembled from the exhaust header...

Andrej

Thanks!
Method 1 sounds like a no-go at the moment...

Hmmm, sounds like a lot of work since my car was lowered by TE71Corolla and thus leaving less space from underneath. Also sounds like I might need to use a bridge to reach it. I'll have a look at it tonight.

You could try to see if you can get a jack under the crossmember and then lift it up and put it on axlestands..

Okay. That was a total waste of time...
I couldn't reach it at all with a hammer from the enginebay and the car is too low to crawl underneath and apply the hammer. I do have a jack (oem), but no axlestands so I was not going to risk breaking my neck (or some other bodypart) by crawling underneath and try to reach it and the jack tipping over...

So I tried to follow the cables from the enginebay but I could not see where the cables came from or went to. Probably one of the cables packed in a tube which go to the engine for all I could tell. Then it went too dark to see and I gave up. Undecided

BTW, the hammering bit involves a metal pipe or broomstick of some sort so you can reach in there...doubt if it would have done any good..Your starter would have been fried if it was stuck and you push-started the car.

Nope. My sister in law has graduation today, so I don't have time today. Undecided

"Piston" 28235 - 35080

Fittings are aftermarked from a company that has specialized in starter rebuilds, but bought at Toyota. If you are not able to get them order this part number: 28226 - 72080 (Actually for E101, but they should fit the E86 as well) Problem is that this way you are not only getting the fittings, but some extra parts which makes it more expensive Sad

Hope this helps Wave
