Yeah, thats one great car that oneSmile

been around for awhile though Smile

The PVR-6 was sortof a last ditch option...

The engine of choice was actually a V8 from Lotus that was long planned and in the original design plans. then Lotus was asked to finish the design when things went south with the injection molding plans they originally wanted (the DeLorean never originally was ment to have the lotus Y frame it was finally build on).

The story goes that when Colin Chapman was discussing the plans with JZD about the car he was already unhappy with how far back the V8 would be with the tranny infront of the engine (same problem as with the 911s), the engine compartment had to end right after the seats to be able to place the V8 forward enough.
when JZD told him that one of the design criteria was that his golfclubs HAVE to fit behind the seat so he can go golfing, it is said Chapman told him he would draw back the offer to install the V8.

In the end they choose the PVR V6 as it was a shorter block then the V8 and that saved enough space to put JZDs golfclubs behind the seat and not mess up the weight distribution even more.

Nowadays offcourse people simply drop in the northstar V8 with proper matching gearbox. The northstar is nearly the same size as the PVR-6 and it weighs about the same. Just happens to have 300+ hp just like the 3 rotorWink
