Info on spring spacers

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anybody knows about this. I've been thinking about getting nicer springs for the rear of my car but I always end up with springs that lower the car to much.

So the other day JonT gave me a link for some spacers you can buy. They are basically an alluminium ring with the same outer diameter as the spring but with a ledge so the spring fits firmly on the ring.

Now with shipping these things cost more then it would cost me to get custom springs made but it does seem like it would be something that can be recreated with not to complicated tools.

So couple of questions:
first, does anybody have any experience with these spacers, are they safe? I'm really worried about the spacer coming loose. From what I gathered the spacer was placed on the axle below the spring so if the car jumps, off comes the spacer?

second, does anyone have better pictures of these things?

third, what type of materials would be suitable, offcourse aluminium or steel (but that would be heavy I guess). How about the stuff those hard bushings are made off? I heard you can cast that stuff into form?

last, would anyone else be interesting in this?
