I've seen this somewhere already.

The only problem with it is, in case of an accident, the hood doesn't cruble the way it should. Since the support beams have been cut.

But, that's the downside. The upside is: If you like this sort of thing, you can do it yourself, or get it done relitively cheap.

But in my eyes nothing beats a carbon fibre hood.

Yeah, but a CF hood wont crumple up like you would like it to either.
You really shouldnt worry about these things to much...it's an eighties car...your in for a hard time anyway if you crash it.

CF will shatter most likely... projectiles galore...

Cars are not meant to be crashed anyway. And indeed... most cars, even small compacts, way more than a ton (1000kg). And the 86 weighs way less (depends on the level of weight reduction / adding you have done).
Weight disadvantage + structuredisadvantage (being 20+ years old) = don't crash or else...

Hi there..
you really need to take into consideration the money we are talking about here aswell.

Thses pics are of my own car - i made the scoope about 14 months ago with fine results - since i had never before done such a thing with a velder.
(well i have, but only much smaller scoopes)

a CF hood is totally illegal in most countries - since it will (like Ivan says)
not bend like an metal-hood.

CF will crack & split like plexiglas in case of a crash.

this modefication did cot me abou 15 Euro´s in total.

A Levin CF hood (real CF) cost atleast 400E + shipping.

Kristian

Shipping is the bitch. Price of the hood itself is actually pretty acceptable.

I agree with that. Nothing beats CF!

And about Kris's hood, it looks real good irl.

I made mine that way too.
There are 2 major issues.
1. Filler. If possible - avoid using it.
2. On the market you can find fiberglass frame (from "tunning" store) - you can cut the hood useng the shape of this frame and cover the edges with the frame.
The overall result is similar:
