High impedance inj with MAP low impedance ECU
Hey guys, thought it would really be worth it to go straight to the source since I'm having no luck on club4ag. Basically I've got an AE86 with AE92 High comp motor and AE86 MAP swapped into my car (AFM is standard here Sad). Anyways, I cannot figure out what to do about getting the high impedance AE92 injectors to work. There isn't a resistor box like there is on the AFM cars. Any of you figured this out yet? I'm thinking of jus swapping to b series injectors if I can't figure this out.

High imp injectors will work in a system designed for low impedance, not the other way around. there was a LONG post aboput this on club4ag some time back.

If you dont tweak your fuel settings with piggy back, your fuel cut rpm limiter wont be as effective. Its sound like its fouling at 8000rpm. Bigger fuel pump not bad idea.

High impedance injectors can be used with low impedance ECU. SIpmly bypass the resistor-box. It is under the dash. The other way around is to supply 12V instead 5V(for low imp.) Search club4ag forum - it is described in detail.

Ok, that makes some sense. Since I have a USDM underdash harness, I don't have a resistor box there. I figured out that I will run OBD-0 B series honda injectors. They are 240cc like the AE92 high comps, but they are low impedance like the AE86 injectors.

Go for it...the OBD honda stuff is said to be a direct fit.
BTW, are you guys sure that all ae86's have these resitor packs? Never spotted it on any ae86 I've worked on so I'm curious about where to find it..

In the red one i made there was no resistor pack,
the injector are run directly of the ECU,and i´m pretty sure that there is none in the EURO AE86 map!

Maybe they integrated the resistors into the ECU somehow.. running low impedance injectors without added resistors would require some sort of flyback circuit to keep everything in one piece. And using a flyback circuit you can run high impedance injectors without any problems as well. I rather doubt they would remove technology like that if they already used it on the zneki models..

I had a ECU circut drawing from Toyota, when i made the MS ecu run the car,and on the 83-85 model there injectors are fired directly from the ECU.

You can check the voltage suply to the AE86 injectors - it is 5V(after the resistor pack). The Ecu is on the "ground" side. To run high-impedance injectors you need 12V.

The "yellow" (as far as i remember) wire found in the big connector on the firewall is the injector power supply coming from the resistor pack.
I remember it because when i swapped engines i tried to feed redtop injectors with 5V and they didn't work. Then i figured my mistake and everything was OK.

To find the resistor pack one should look under the dashboard and around the air cleaner.

It´s 12volt on the injector!
