Hey everyone,

just wanted to share a quick update. I’ve checked all the tolerances, and everything is completely stock/like in the manuel. The synchronizer rings show absolutely no signs of wear—the teeth are perfectly sharp and identical to brand-new specs. It looks like this transmission was rebuilt not too long ago.The only parts with noticeable wear were the shift forks, which I have already replaced.

As for the main issue: I suspect the bearing cage was damaged during the previous installation of the input shaft bearing, or the retaining ring was improperly seated/faulty. The ring is completely ruined. I’m currently waiting on a genuine BMW replacement part, as they use the exact same snap ring.

Also, since I won't be doing much Autobahn driving, I've decided to stay with a shorter 5th gear ratio—perfectly optimized for Landstraßen.
