Engine cranks slowly when hot... but starts
I have an issue with my AE86.

Car starts when Engine is cold.
When Engine is hot, the starter motor cranks very slowly (Engine revolution is maybe 1 per 2 sec or so... really slooooow)... but it always fires up.
It feels like after one rev, out of nothing it starts... It's quite impressive Smile

Since it always starts even with low starting revs engine is fine I would say.

That leaves me with several options only:

Battery: I don't think so since it doesn't become worse with all lights on (incuding added lamp-pod)... still I can start the car and the lights don't dim that much.
StarterConfused
CablesConfused I added extra ground cable from Gearbox to chassis but almost no change
Ignition advance: I find on the web that too big advance can cause this issue due to too high compression before TDP.
Anyone faced this issue also?
Is there any other item I missed?

I will check ignitiion this evening.
I need to solve it quite urgent and have not much time to check a lot of things since I have a rally on Saturday.

Thanks a lot.

I´d check the thick positive cable form battery, if the end/conections are fine, and whould try a different starter motor after that.

Factory starter motor has a heat shield attached, plus there are
heat shields attached to the factory exhaust downpipes. If all of
these are missing, heat soak is a known problem with the AE86
starter motor.

You could try using zip ties to secure a layer of reflective heat
shield material around the body of the starter (double sided
silver stuff with reinforcing fabric between the layers. Whatever
you can buy at your local speed shop... kind of like this...

I don,t get the "more input Stephanie" thing... But it's à cool saying from now Smile
Anyway, made a ground cable directly from battery to the engine and iT Sems to work! I Will put THE heatwrap also.
Ifproblem returns I Will get à New starter.

Off. topic: how to swich off. THE dictionaire or change iT to english on ithe iPad ?? Als you can see it's using capitals and so whenever hè wants to

Stephanie is the girl and Number 5 is the robot with a self-learning
function. When Number 5 was in need of further information he would
use the expression "More input Stephanie...". It's at the end of the clip.

Problem seems fixed.
Put a ground cable (-) directl from battery to Engine instead of the additional from Engine to chassis.
So problem seems to be the little f*cker going from battery ground to body.
Thumbs up!
