Clutch won't engage 2nd gear.
Hi guys,

I have this problem for a few weeks now.
It has a rubber feel to it, so it is probably not a sync.
Can it be that the gearbox mount rubber has weakened so that the box tilts backwards a bit.
So obstructing a good shift?

Is this a common problem and are there any upgrades concerning gearbox mountings?

Thanks,

Aram

Clutch won't engage 2nd gear.
After all these years of use, the t50 tryes to do its job. Usually the 2nd gear has the most comon faultys, and the symptoms are just hard engagement.

When I bought my car, i dindt have big problems while shifting, but i had lots of backlash and play, even when a gear was engaged, the shifter would move around like it was unengaged.

I bought 3 little rubbers at Toyota and the backlash was gone, it became a nice and precise feel on the shifter.

If it helps
Here are the part numbers
33548-14010
33356-14010
33356-14020

If aint this the solution, then got to be something inside, like a syncro fe.

Check the 4 bolts that hold the gear lever onto the gearbox housing, to make sure they're tight and not missing any!

That nylon bush at the bottom of the lever in Lipinhu's post above (p/n 33548-14010 ) can wear or even break up completely, giving a very sloppy feel.

It's worth replacing, anyway, as it's only a few euro.
Warm it up a little, and it'll fit easier. Don't forget the grease.

Do you just get the baulking when you change from 1st to 2nd? What about 3rd to 2nd?
If so, it sounds like a synchro problem.

techno toy tuning is selling a kit, made of tougher material that will give an even more precise feel and last longer. Its only 25 us dollars, so i think its a good investment Smile

I cant remember precisely, but i think i spent about 3 euro in that 3 rubers, if they last 10 years, that its a good investment. I dont see the need to buy the t3 ones, but its an option. There are also alluminium bush for the lever, for what?
