Gave up on the tail light seals. Discontinued by toyota and the ones that are floating around on the interwebs cost megabucks. So i went to a diy store and bought a foam mat that was made out of similar material and made them myself.

Spend yesterday afternoon and today trying to find electrical problems and fixing them. My left headlamp had this annoying problem that it would flicker on and off from driving in bumps on the road. Wiring was bad and the h4 plug had seen better days so i soldered a new one on.

While i was doing this i saw a few other crappy wiring repairs so i cut all those wires and resoldered those aswell. I used wiring crimps(the ones that you melt with a lighter) and retaped everything.

After the repairs from the last post i kinda got mental and started cleaning the whole engine bay. Yummie!

Grime and oil caked onto everything, distributorleak made it even worse.

cleanish

This is after some industrial degreaser, dreft and a steamcleaner. Took me the whole weekend.

Took cam covers off, cams don't look too bad.

Then i started with the massive task of getting all the greasy tape off the wiring. Found some wires just twisted together. All have been soldered and sealed with wiring crimps.

Original battery tray had an aluminium tray riveted over it so i took that off to get a better look at possible rust.

Luckily only surface rust, painted the tray with por15.

Nice work! Takes a lot of elbow grease and patience to clean out an engine bay. I did mine with an empty engine bay many years ago before I started the resto, must be much harder with all that stuff in the way.

Wave still here

Haven't done much besides maintenance and driving.

The dash had been buggin me for a long time as one of the previous owners took it out and didn't reinstall it properly. So fixed that, only replaced a couple of missing screws and clips.

Startermotor died 2 months ago and put a refurb one in. It was a different model but it works.

Slapped some heat resistant paint on the manifold to clean it up. Lasted a week before it burned off again, oh well.

To-do list for winter:
-replace tie-rods
-replace steeringrack boots (already bought)
-replace injector seals (already bought)
-get some welding done up front (small hole and surface rust)

Looking good. Regarding the paint, most heat resistent paint only goes to around 650C - when I had the EGT still fitted I regullarly measured in excess of 700C on spirited trips and on track around 800C. So paint would need to be able to handle 1000C to last.

Mine was rated upto 800C. Doesn't really matter anymore as it'll probably get an aftermarket item fitted.

Changed gearbox-& diff oil, did the motor oil a few weeks back. Almost ready for winter.

Also had a small leak from the gearstick. When taking the gearstick out, one of the bolts broke so had to drill it out.

And used a tapping set to clear the thread from debris. Only spend 10mins on everything, went much faster than i thought.
