Bushes
Hi, I’m attempting to get my 86 back on the road after almost 20 years off the road. I need to replace some bushes and will probably do them all over the next year or so. I want to keep the car fairly stock apart from a few none visible upgrades. My question is is whether to stick to rubber bushes, if available or to put poly bushes in. I understand they will firm up the handling but at the cost of ride quality. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it will be affected the ride. I also understand that poly bushes are easier to fit than the old rubber ones. The car won’t be raced. I know that flos.ie do a kit. Are they the only ones or are there others? I haven’t found any others. Cheers. Keith

Like you said, the ride will firm up when you install poly bushes. I've driven with partly installed nylon bushes (rear axle). I remember the nylon bushes to give a tremendous amount of road noise, and when I switched back to OEM, it was like night and day. I've driven with a friend of mine who installed the polybushes all around, and it was definitely way noisier than mine, but not as bad as the nylon bushes. But I also remember it giving a much more direct feel. Nowadays, mine only has the stock rubber bushings. I still have a set of Prothane in the shed, but I haven't had the urge yet to replace them.
Flos.ie sells the Prothane kit, but Powerflex also offers every bush individually: https://powerflexstore.co.uk/toyota/corolla-ae86-rwd/ In Japan, there is no single kit available, but various suppliers (Cusco, Tecarts) offer parts of the kit. Tecarts offers polybushes: http://www.tecarts.com/catalog/urethanebush.html And Cusco offers reinforced bushes: https://shop.kts-web.com/products/116-91...ac25&_ss=r 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop:

I used slightly modified Honda Accord OEM rubber bushes for the rear end, you just have to shave the center metal bar down a bit on both sides to make them fit.
Have had poly bushes in the past and did not enjoy them for street use. Part nr on those is FEBI BILSTEIN 41994 in case your interested. I turned them down on a lathe but to be honest its way easier and more efficient to just grab a grinder with a flap wheel to shorten them. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |
