Forget 4AGE if you want 250+ bhp.
Get yourself CA18DET with manual transmission and change rear diff. With sintered clutch and good diff it will drift like crazy.
Will fit under 2500e mark with good reliability easily.
Forget daily use though Wink.

Why not ?
CA18DET is very reliable engine, if swap is done right, i don't see why it wouldn't run reliably in any chassis, including AE86.
What problems do you have ?

The theory of boosted ae86 life is different to practice. A small problem at 130hp becomes a big one at 270hp.. A singing diff that will last another 2 years behind a stock 4A-GE lasts 2 minutes at 270bhp. A failing fuel pump on a stock 4AGE is damn.. I *think* my engine starts a little harder and it has a little less hp. At 15PSI its bye bye pistons. You constantly have to chase little problems before they become big ones. Spend spend spend.

As i said, different diff is "a must". Fuel pump and many other stuff also.
As much as i've seen, stock pistons are forged and they can sustain 250bhp without problems.

I'm certain it is (at least one of) the cheapest ways to have ~250bhp in AE86.

cheapest? maybe, cheap? no
And everything is a "must", the whole system just becomes more stressed (150hp/l) and that makes it more succeptible to small errors/mistakes and malfunctions. Most people think its "easy" to do a good install, but forget that it is also easy to make a small mistake somewhere. Afterwards on forums you then only read: "offourse the engine blew up, you forgot to put XX on YY." Sounds logical, but you never read that the list of musts is about 1000 items long and almost everyone forgets at least one thing, most about 10%

The CA18DET longblock will take 250hp only with perfect spark, fuel, watertemp and oiltemp+condition. In the end its a 20 year old engine that has been stressed at 2 times the normal loads for an engine its size. Without a full rebuild you're gonna see problems. Nissan forums are filled with damaged engines.

When it does run, it is very fun! Just wish it did so more often.

Hey NoHachi,

What do you need to let better camshafts run on the 4age...
What EXTRA upgrades you need?
Are there small or bigger things you can do on the 4age itself then?
(that maybe gain some better response or even a bit more hp?)

k sorry and thanks Smile
I am not lazy and have allready seen multiple pages like these I just want somebody fresh to say to me...

Well... If you buy camshafts and have them installed this is safe to do for example certain brand and certain angle/degrees.
You might also want to look at a full exhaust line with stainless steel header etc.

You know like making a tune-up list... with examples what to buy and what to do.
