Annoying distributor
Went to replace the 2 distributor o rings to day as they were leaking oil, i marked the position of everything so as not to throw out the timing. Then i put everything back the way it came off, went to start the car and she barely started an missed badly, i tried adjusting it but that just made things worse, and now it wont start. is it just me or are 4age dizzys really sensitive, anyone had a problem like this and found an easy way of getting the timing lined up perfectly again?.

Hey,

I have had one that did this,
And if you are sure that it is put in the head,as it came out(and not one tooth to the side),
Then i have had the same,and i was the round yellow connector,with 3 pins,that goes to the igniter,were one wire was so bad,that it was practely over
So this was fixed with a paperclip,going around the connector(this was fixed on the road Smile

Guys...stop marking the distributor. Toyota already did this for you.
When putting the dizzy in, first set the engine at TDC on compression stroke (crankpulley marking at 0 degrees, dimple in camshaft visible through oil filler hole). Then line up the two little dimples on the tip of the distributor (one on static part, one on the turning part). When all is lined up just aim the dizzy into the head around the middle of it's adjustment and you should have it spot on.

@ivan Wave
that's what I did wrong, rotated the turning part 180 deg when putting it back on the shaft, so it didn't line up with static part, unless you rotated it another 180, but then timing was off....
a bit comlpicated to explain with no pics, but get the idea?

btw, everything is ok now Smile
