So yeah apparently Toyota sold 50 million Corollas over the past six decades, so to celebrate they created a couple of Japanese mangas. The third manga features a story that includes a Levin AE86.

According to Japanese Nostalgic Car:

Quote:In the 80s a young woman angrily bursts in on her boyfriend, asking where he’s been and why he’s been neglecting her. Is he cheating on her? In a matter of sorts, yes. He’s bought an AE86 to fulfill his dream of becoming a race car driver. Fortunately, the girlfriend thinks the black and white car is “cute”. It even lets them go on dates when the boyfriend is not practicing his wrenching and touge skills. The themes of young love and racing dreams echo a certain comic that had an AE86 as its star.

You can read the whole five page manga here:
Eric Teti, an NYC-based car photographer, created this magazine covering 7600+ photos of AE86s all over the world. He made all photos and he was lucky to have seen this many! The money will be donated to a charity called Black Lives Matter. In the current situation the money is definitely needed.
You can buy your magazine (or this awesome Trueno sticker) here:
Even though the video is 32 minutes, he is able to cover almost every variant of the AE86 and add an estimation of how many were sold in each region. Also the backdrops of the AE86 production are definitely worth watching!

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a thread to show cool books and magazines that anyone finds. I doubt I'm the only one around here with a collection of reading material. It would be cool if people add to the thread with stuff they find, or items they already have in their collection.

This is a book that I guess most people here already have:
AE86 Owner's Bible:

This one is obviously not 86 related, but its an interesting book that is very well written. Its written and extremely well researched by Shin Yoshikawa.
Toyota 2000GT, Kai Art International:

As you can see, its written in English and Japanese. Its also very picture heavy.

The last one I'll post here for now is published by Haynes (yes, that Haynes) in 1986 and I really enjoyed reading it. It gives a good overview of the history of the major Japanese manufacturers and seems (mostly) well researched.
Complete History of the Japanese Car, Marco Ruiz:

Being published in the 80s, the AE86 hadn't become legendary yet, but its good to see a mention in the Toyota section.

While reading this one, I was surprised to find info on the 'Nissan' Soarer, a car that bizarrely uses a lot of Toyota switch gear.

If anyone wants any info on these books, then let me know and I'll tell you what I can.

Then head back to Malaysia and come back to Europe in springitime to visit even more countries!

Immaculate kouki Levin Lime

I found this immaculate Levin Lime on Instagram and I thought it would be good to share this with you!

The person who bought it is slpery86 and he lives in Japan. The Levin Lime has only 16000 kilometers on the odometer!

How the car arrived:

After clean up:

The interior is almost immaculate:

Proof that it's a real Levin Lime and a bit of a shame about that dink in the driverseat:

The car came with a Levin driving guide. I bought the same thing a few years ago and it's basically a graphic version of the normal AE86 booklet.

But then including small bits like "don't go sideways, this will destroy your car"

Some other interior pics:

Proof that it only drove 16K!

I have a few model kits of the 86, I've been collecting diecast models for a long time (I made a thread about my diecast collection too) and have ended up buying the occasional plastic kit to go with them. The occasional plastic kit for nearly 20 years has led to me having quite a few kits, so I've decided to build some of them. There's a few specific cars I've seen over the years that I want to build models of but I've decided to start with a standard UK spec car.

Having got this kit for my birthday last year, I'm starting with this:

I haven't built a model in a while, looks daunting:

Here's goes with the primer:

I don't know why, but I think gold is the colour for this job.
A friend works in a paint shop and was kind enough to mix a can of Toyota 4E1 Topaz metallic:

Going UK spec, so decals went on accordingly:

Let me know if this is extremely stupid and inappropriate for this forum. Otherwise I'll continue the build when I get time. I already have some cool surprise parts that I think will make this a good project.

Let me know if this is extremely stupid and inappropriate for this forum. Otherwise I'll continue the build when I get time. I already have some cool surprise parts that I think will make this a good project.

The car is on stock engine, stock suspension, trd 2 way diff early spec, and shitty tires.

I have to sort out some problems regarding the diff not locking on decent tires, but everything else worked just fine.
First time drifting, first time on a track with a RWD car
Lots of fun!

As some of you may know, Edd China came back from Wheeler Dealers to a new kind of series on youtube. As there's only one episode aired, we thought we should give it a try.

one week after uploading it, the official edd china garage revival channel replied and then, set what would become the instructions on how to get in touch with them and we went crazy hahaha

anyway, if youre interested on what we've been doing on the car, there's plenity of videos on that hachi roku spain channel, but the coolest ones are the one in wich we start the engine for the first time after the rebuild, and those trying to learn to drift.

hope you enjoy it, and fingers crossed for that edd china helping us finishing the car! hahaha

cheers!

So I thought I would break the old gal out and take her for a drive with a group of friends who are ex & current Celica owners from Celicaclubuk that now call ourselves the 'Scottish Titans'. I drove from Inverness in north Scotland down to Sterling for the meeting point and then we drove around Loch Lomond and then up past Loch Ness.... Sadly no monster. a nice round trip of 305miles!

The roads them selfs where mostly all twisty back roads so a lot of fun was had, coupled with the noise of the cars going through the Glens made for a nice soundtrack. Also got a chance to put the new suspension to work. Car handled great and kept up well and gave some hassle to my friends Calinda GTT (basically a family GT4). Cant wait for the better weather to take this out on more drives!

Hi guys!

Being on a trip to Japan, I passed by the Carland 86 garage in Kyoto for some spare parts. Turns out, they're out of OEM parts just as much as we are in Europe (was looking for OEM air filter, a seat belt bolt, rear quarter window clips and a clip for my spoiler). Only got one TRD oil filter as a souvenir, but a bunch of pictures of a bunch of nice cars. Enjoy!
