lntermittent starting
l've not investigated this issue yet and wondered if anyone has experienced this problem on an AE86 before.
Sometimes turning the key to start the engine there is a 'click' from the starter, other times it is fine. Maybe happens once in twenty starts.
Battery is good as are the connections to both starter and battery.
I'm wondering about the ignition switch.
Any help or thoughts appreciated, thanks.

I can't remember from the top of my head but look through the first couple of pages of my Globetrotter thread. I had a similar issue. I think I took the starter apart, cleaned, reassembled, tested it according to the manual and put it back in after.

Does it happen only with either cold starts or hot starts?

I had the exact problems you are experiencing when I first had my Corolla. Sometimes, it starts on the button and other times it didn't. Also, when I drove my car and then stopped and tried to start the car again, it was like dead. I had to wait until the car cooled down and then it started up again. It was so frustrating.

The problem lies down to contacts wearing out on the power feed to the solenoid.

I followed the guide by SQ Engineering by installing a 4 pin relay. This has overcame the problem and I never had that problem since.

Read this.

Hope this helps.
