Time to get the belt on and set cam timing.

But first we have a small problem to deal with... instead of a 116 tooth timing belt, I ended up with a belt with 119 teeth....

....someone put the wrong belt, into the right box

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - OST-070: 7AGE for an N2 Levin]

so once I got that settled, setting cam timing can begin.... it begins with KNOWING TDC. I use a piston stop, and determine exact TDC. Once TDC is determined, I move on to the cam card.

I take the cam centerlines and mark them on my timing wheel

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - OST-070: 7AGE for an N2 Levin]

and then adjust each camshaft so the cams centerline lines up with the respective marks on the timing wheel

Note: finding the centerline of the cam is kind of like finding TDC on the crankshaft, to determine the exact centerline I use a few degrees on other side of the lobes peak to determine the actual center.

Now that the cams are set according to the cam card, the timing cover, and trigger kit gets fitted.

more to come.... Hurray!

Not sure exactly why but I just love your tarp background pictures. They look a big step up in quality - well done.
The close up one of the cam wheels could be straight from a commercial.
Maybe it's just the bokeh effect but whatever it is keep doing it Big Grin

I hope you dind't have to count all teeth of the cambelt to figure out it was the wrong one. Huh
