Short version is that I don't enjoy driving the car anymore. I did enjoy fixing stuff on the car last summer though.
Let someone else drive it so you can fix it when its broken? Tongue
I didn't enjoy it that much! Big Grin

I finally made time to replace the rear seats with some new covers. Robokill donated some old rusty seats he had lying around in his shed. I took them apart and thoroughly washed the fabric three times. I already did this two or three years ago. Fast forward to November 2023 and I replaced the first of the two seats on a warm and dry November Wednesday:

As you can see, there is a big difference between the European and Japanese fabric in both pattern and colour. The left seat is the one I replaced the fabric of and it is still a bit wrinkled. I'm not 100% sure the lighter colour is different as this seat was in a shed for over 10 years and its back frame was crumbling to pieces due to the rust. Naturally, the backside of the fabric was stained with rust-brown spots as well. The darker blue colour is different and less stained, so I think it is different after all.

Then we had three weeks of almost continuous rain here in the Netherlands, so today I was finally able to replace the fabric of the second seat:

As you can see, the left seat has settled and the wrinkles are gone.

This is what it looks like when folded down:

And this from the rear:

The headrests on this fabric also have been damaged, but at least they aren't ripped. So it's a whole lot better compared to the old ones!
That means the Trueno now is ready and I can finally put it up for sale.

What's the plan from here on, are you going to get another 86?

Unfortunately not anytime soon. Sad
The plan is to make my Carina a true four-door AE86. Maybe in the future I will get another one.

How close to stock is your 86 (primarily in terms of engine), and how terrible is the rust it has?

As far as I know, the engine is bone stock apart from a grounding kit. It has a trd short shifter and probably an aftermarket diff as it's quite clunky on tight corners and in the wet I hear it click sometimes. (especially at traffic lights when driving off with a heavy right foot)
But, like the short shifter, this wasn't on the list of modifications when I got it.
The only rust left is a very small spot on the bootlid and on the inside of the driverside door.
