Toyota revives Black Limited 86
Not sure if everyone followed the news at the Tokyo Auto Salon when Toyota unveiled their 86 Black Limited concept.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Toyota revives Black Limited 86]
Apparently they are going forward with it and it looks like it will be sold under the Gazoo Racing brand:

Now if you watch this video you will probably have noticed the car in the video isn't black but a red car. Probably they haven't made a final car yet. Banging head

From what is know is that there aren't going to be that many differences between an ordinary black 86 and a Black Limited 86 apart from different brakes, gold wheels, blacked out interior and some fancy Black Limited stitching. In other words: in the same spirits as the AE86 Black Limited! Big Grin

This time the 86 Black Limited will be a bit rarer car: only 86 are going to be produced. 43 6-speed manual and 43 automatic. Similar to the AE86 Black Limited it will be a Japan-only car. Crying

So is this being used as a final send off in a similar fashion to the original Black Limited? If so I hope they replace the 86 with something similar.
Personally, I think that 86 units is too rare, they're giving too much opportunity to speculators. But if the past is anything to go by, then they'll probably just make 1000 more of them for the other markets when they recognise the potential money to be made.

*Edit. I'm willing to bet that even if 86 units are made, in twenty years there will be an online registry of all Black Limiteds and because there's always at least one asshole who builds a replica and sells it as the real deal you just know that there will be 500+ 'genuine' BL 86s registered. Kind of like how its been speculated that California may have more 1933 Ford hotrods than Ford ever actually built.

Yes back with the AE86 Black Limited, TE47 Black Limited and the Celica RA28 Black Limited the production numbers reflected 1/1000th of the total (anticipated) production run. I believe Toyota sold more than 70000 cars the first year alone, so it's not connected to that anymore.
People trying to sell off fake ones will always happen: if there is money to be made it's worth investing in it. The AE86 Black Limited is generally about 3 times as expensive as an ordinary one, so go figure. Big Grin

Does anyone here remember the AEU86 member who bought a Black Limited? I was lucky enough to get a good look around it. Couldn't believe it when he sold it, but he had a good reason to part with it.

I haven't seen him post here for a while so I'm guessing he doesn't have an 86 anymore, though I know he owned a few of them over the years.

I think he was called Pack Big Grin Big Grin
More seriously, his nick was Simon Goes Sideways: http://www.aeu86.org/forum/Thread-Drift-...vingdon-UK
And indeed his Black Limited was one of the finest out there with a 4AGZE under the bonnet! Yummie!

Did you have to post a link to the thread? I feel old now.

There was another 86 drifting at that event, plus mine in the car park while I watched and blagged passenger rides in S13s and S14s. I still remember how excited I was at being able to sit in a Black Limited and listen to Simon's Eurobeat CDs.
The clock in that car lit up in orange, though most of the other Black Limited interior parts were missing.

I don't think Simon ever created a topic about his car, except when he sold it:

Yes the clock should light up in orange:

Which is very specific as almost every Toyota I have seen with that same clock (Toyota reused them in many other Corollas) have a blue one. Big Grin

The black AE86 is in Ireland and last seen belonging to D McNamara. There were rumours suggesting it wasn't a genuine Black Limited.

There is only one true Nismo at AEU86

Obviously we'll never know, but it wouldn't surprise me if that car wasn't real. I can say that when I saw it (which was a long time ago now) it was missing quite a lot of the BL parts but it still had some parts that are hard to find. At this point I wouldn't trust anyone to sell me a genuine Black Limited because I've seen too many replicas running around.

There were rumours of an elderly couple buying one in the UK somewhere without knowing what it was, but I never heard more of it after about 2006.

It's Simon's old Black Limited! Hurray!

I've received these three photos from Simon back in 2004. No photos from the interior though, but from the outside it looks genuine.
