How to rebuild the AE86's brake system all around
I recently rebuilt my AE86's brake calipers all around, and thought I'd share my DIY videos with you guys. In this series of 3 videos I show how I rebuilt the front and back calipers using the repair kits sold by Toyota, and also how I replaced all the brake lines in the system with a stainless steel braided line kit by Goodridge!
So here are the goods for your viewing enjoyment: Second video where I show the repair on the rear brake calipers... Also, here is my video of how I rebuilt the brake master cylinder on the AE86, using the repair kit sold by Toyota. It is a quite simple procedure and everyone can do it with some basic tools, and the manual by your side of course! Finally, the final step: bleeding the brakes! Thanks to Ben (mechanical stig from mighty car mods) for his tip on building the brake bleeding "tool")! Have fun and let me know if this helped you :-) Enjoy!! Thanks for posting I used one way valve connected to bleeding hoses for easier bleeding. You don't need to waste time with bleeding screw.

An excellent solution also! I went to my usual parts dealer to look for such a one-way valve but they had never heard of it!
But it makes the job much much easier, thanks for the reference :-) E12 2.0 D-4D - 2002 - "Mariazinha" - G6R - 1998 - "Bebedolas" - AE86 - 1987 - "Charutinho" - Check out my Youtube Channel with lots of AE86 DIY Guides! |

In that case it is also good to put some teflon tape on bleeding screw threads just to be sure that no air is going back in. With this system you can bleed the brakes alone.

Thanks for the tip about the teflon tape, I hadnt thought about that and makes sense...
Another aspect I thought I'd mention: The connectors in the lines, as well as the bleeder plugs, need to be handled with tender love and care as they are made from brass, a soft material. The purpose of such a soft material is to crush against the cone in the line, so that it can contain the fluid inside, but if you overtighten the nuts they can easily strip. Therefore, you have to be careful... If you keep that in mind it should be easy to rebuild the brakes! :-) E12 2.0 D-4D - 2002 - "Mariazinha" - G6R - 1998 - "Bebedolas" - AE86 - 1987 - "Charutinho" - Check out my Youtube Channel with lots of AE86 DIY Guides! |
