Anyone have a clue what to use ?
I have seen a 'top hat' type used that sits on the valve stem and I know TRD do a spring retainer that uses a flat 9.5mm shim that fits in the top. I think the TRD ones use non standard collets (keepers) also. Any other issues with the TRD type ? thanks tc

Yaris ones. Yaris (vitz?) has the same size. Its well known in japan and also found on club4ag. I am building an engine which also has it. Just buy the cams. Measure with the original buckets than buy one yaris. Measure what you need and order form toyota.

Thanks for the reply. I should have made it clear that I already have the underbucket cam followers, just need to sort the shims now

Consider using the Yaris under bucket shims, these are one piece and are much lighter.

Totta - The set up you have described sounds identical to the shim/bucket set up found on the late spec 3sgte (and possibly other engines)
Its an under bucket arrangment with a small shim that sits in the spring retainer recess under the bucket - the shim is about 10mm across or there abouts from memory.
The shims can be found on 1994 onwards SW20 turbo or a ST205 GT4.
Sounds like you have confirmed what I stated a whle back that the under bucket arrangement on the late 3SGTE will also fit the 4AGE head.
Your looking at about £40 for a full set of shims for the head - Toyota can supply them in every size but you will need to get 1 first so you can work out the tolerances and what you need for the rest of the 16 valves.
I will see if I have any spares kicking around in the garage from the last gte rebuild i did.

Try contacting friends on this board to get you the shim sizes you need for your head adjustment.
