Just a bit reluctant to start a project topic, since there's not much to tell yet. And she's in pretty good knick, so not too much work has to be done.
But anyways... pictures will come later, way later Just felt the need to start a page, tell something about the maintenance and future upgrades.
Last saturday I went over to a friend to change the timing belt and tension pulley. Following the instructions from Mux and the 4AGE manual, we managed to change the belt in a bloody 6 hour shift.
It was hell to get the pulley of without a pulley-puller. Various contraptions weren't strong enough and just buckled under the tension. A trip to the car-parts-shop didn't help either (bought pulley puller didn't work on the 4-spoke pulley from the 4AGE). Finally, we managed to find some metal L-bar, cut it up, drilled holes, and that piece was finally strong enough to take the tension.
Only thing is, there's a small bolt wedged within the crank-space. It was used as some kind of spacer since we didn't have long enough bolts. Luckily it is wedged pretty much dead-center, but still, kinda sucks. Hopefully it doesn't make the crank that unbalanced (since the pulley goes over the same area, and that pully is unbalanced).
Yeah, long story No pictures of the process unfortunately. No digicam's available (and my cellphone takes crappy crappy pictures (noise)).
Oh, yeah, the abby bit... well, had a talk with my girlfriend the other day, and we came up with names for the car. We gave her two names, but unfortunately we both forgot the second name. I just remember the second one started with E. AE... cheesy I know. Anyways Abby (abigail) stuck. I thought the car kinda resembled the fiery nature of Abby Sciuto (NCIS ).
So there, Abby, cavey's 86
taken a couple of weeks ago @metropolis, antwerp (carpark )
Cellphone, crappy sensor... lots of noise

Hehehe, doesn't matter, the name just popped in my head and I thought it suited the car. The name probably popped in my head because I'm a small fan of Abby from NCIS. She's a bit peculiar, and this car is a bit peculiar as well. Also has some feistiness. For me not such a long stretch
Puhun suomea koska olin asunut suomessa. Puoli vuotta. Uitwisselings student
muistan pieni suomen kieli.
but I suck at finnish. I can kinda read it better than write it. Speaking and hearing ... just so-so.
@Eric: Hrmz........ all in good time, she sits a bit high yeah

I as was already thinking you would most likely have been an uitwisselings student. Were you in TKK, University of Helsinki or some where else? I work in TKK.

I was in Turku through the Turun AMK doing my thesis project (and I'm still trying to finish the damn paper... 5 years later bit too much partying, finnish style)
Still have plenty of friends in Finland, actually going there again for a short trip beginning of October. Friend is getting married near Tre
Dunno whether we'll have time to do some visiting though But I'd like to return again to finland for some holidays and just meet some of the finnish AE86 crew. I know there are at least a couple orso from the Turku area

Did some much needed interior cleaning this weekend. Normally I would not clean a car on the inside this thoroughly, but I got inspired by DJexor's Interior cleaning project thread.
Attached some pictures, didn't take pictures of yesterday's session, the pre-cleaning state, so only some pictures of today: pre-vacuumcleaning, found some rust spot on the inside of the wheelarch, backseating and well, just watch the pictures

Cavey what will you use the car for? I like the project but if you ditch the interior let me know. I still look for some parts.

Car will be used as weekend driver, and for fun. In the future once I have enough money scrounged together new shocks will be applied (coil-over is the ultimate goal, still debating a bit whether to do short stroke conversion by hand, or save up for say a Greddy Type-S kit).
Other than that, just keep it kinda stock Some enginebaypron is arriving soon, from the T3 order thread a short shiftkit'n'bushings are coming to replace the old worn bushings and just interior bling with the shifter
So not planning on ditching parts of the interior just yet, sorry.

Thanks
Yeah, the Apexi comes with tubing and vacuumline connectors. Complete kit for the AE86
Now I just need to get some filters (jo banpei, hurry up with answering my mail ) and I can do a small engine oil change, fitting new plugs, airfilter and wires.
I probably need to do some dreft work first to clean the engine a bit... mwuuuh.

fsck,
my engine started to run a bit limpy, making some coughing/wheezing noise instead of the usual normal hum. Oil pressure started fluctuating.
Anyone got some ideas/theories what might be wrong? It sounded like a leaky extractor/exhaust header, but I didn't notice any extra fume smells inside. The fluctuating oil pressure has got me worried. What could cause this?
I'll probably make a video this evening under the hood with running engine for the sound of how horrible it sounds now

haven't heard clunking sounds yet but will get back this evening with some movie/sound hopefully (I wonder how well my N6110 will perform with making a vid)
It kinda sounds like the engine in this vid when it's idling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJSBSu4_s_w&feature=related
But I'll make a vid this evening

here's the vid:
Link
It sounds rough, but putting my ear close to the engine it seems the 4AGE itself is still ok. So probably I just have a broken exhaust.
What do you guys think?

exhaust prolly within the second piece. (header than downpipe) the downpipe is prolly busted. engine is fine.

ok!
I think I've figured out the oil pressure thing: Oil level is low, so going to top-it up to keep it going for now, and replace the complete engine oil + filter later this week.
@robokill: that is encouraging news downpipe is the thing in between the stock-header, and the connecting pipe to the cat/test pipe? Going from pipes 2 to 1 (i.e. 4-2-1 system, the downpipe is the 2-1 bit)?

jip. Its a bad part 2-1 pipe gets holes and shit. Also because its around the front wheels (at the ground level) so stones and shit pops against it when cornering.
If thats broken I would replace the header. (maybe full janspeed ?) there affordable these days and give a good flow and easy install.
When the car is driving the middle part of the car won't get much stones from the road. But every piece of the car near the front or rear wheels will. Also the muffler at the end of the exhaust tends to break.

i've seen 2 front pipes break/crack now, all on the point where the 2 go in into 1 and then exactly in the middle where the 2 pipes meet, like in the centre of this letter: Y
Take it off, put a blob of weld on there and refit (or do it on the car), and another job's jobbed

that is actually what just happened to me last weekend. Just cruising around on saturday, nothing too fancy... and the whole pipe just came crashing down, at that exact point where the 2 front pipes go into 1. Gone, totally gone. And a deafening roar
So it seems I have to look for a new exhaust header, and a new first-muffler bit. Everything behind the first muffler flange is still in good nick.
So I'm looking for a bit of advice here. Replace the complete exhaust header and fit it a muffler/testpipe, fix the 2-1 downpipe, replace the 2-1 downpipe.. hmm?
Ideas will be greatly appreciated.
