How much does it cost for the cross member? It looks like a very well built piece.

hm, this is a common solution for the f20c swap, but is it strong enough?

I am actually in the midst of the same project on a left hand drive version.
I am doing most of the work along with a friend of mine who will do all the welding.

My car will be my daily driver so I am not going as hardcore as you or some of the people who do these swaps are. (I'm pretty young and poor too).
My subframe is already welded and good to go, I am making some 1cm spacers because my cusco mounts are smaller than the stock ones and I am using the JSP mounting kit which was designed for the stock mounts.

I am not lowering the subframe though.
I have cut the tranny tunnel and dropped the engine in for a test fit, everything looks like it will work, but I'll be 100% sure once I have those spacers made and in.

Next thing on my list is to take the motor back out and remove the seam sealer so I can stitch weld the engine bay and paint it black.

How did you removed the seam sealer???
I think I'll make a thread like this once I am done showing my progress.

Square, the seam sealer is removed using a drill and a wire wheel, that gets most of it out then its a case of using a sharp pointed object to get in the nook & cranny's. You'll know if there is still some there as it wont weld Very Happy

Miguel, thanks Very Happy

Looking good, Conrad!

I suppose they have to keep it outside for space reasons ATM, but shame to see the bare metal being allowed to corode like that (I know it's only surface rust). Maybe a car cover could be secured over it to protect against the weather?

They need to also drill out the chassis plate and remove the door trims, but I'm sure they'll be getting around to that anyways. Good stuff anyways - Looking forward to seeing it take shape from here! Thumbsup

Miguel, care to expand on drilling out the chassis plate? Whats the options on the door trims?

As for leaving it outside I think its a space thing but your right, it should at least be covered up!

Just drilling out the 2 pop rivets will get the chassis plate off - Make sure you keep it safe, though - as you can't get an original replacement..

To avoid damage from moisture, rain, etc. those door trims should come off. Need a Phillips & flat head screw driver plus a clip removal tool, to prize the plastic clips off - this will avoid damaging the compressed cardboard behind the PVC trim. Keep all the original parts in freezer bags with labels, somewhere safe where they won't get lost, trodden on, etc.

Would recommend re-trimming the door cards in some nice material. We can supply Bride Mesh (Which looks like carbon mesh) inexpensively for example - which looks excellent. Or you can go silly and get carbon door trims, carbon rear quarter trims, full carbon dashboard, carbon sill trims, carbon wind deflectors, etc. but I wouldn't recommend too much of that stuff.... It'll rattle & squeak! Evil or Very Mad
