I've only seen electric PS conversion among the ford crowd in the UK so far. Maybe you can learn a bit more about it on one of the forums there (turbosports.co.uk looks like a nice starting place.. great forum).

crikey the saxo pump eats 50 amps under load, that means upgrading all power and earth cables to big fat ones, hmmm i might look at using a corsa electric colum instead

Here in Hungary 3 cars running with Suzuki Ignis el. p/s column (and quaife sterring rack). I don't know so much but its working well and it costs about 300EUR complete.

I heard that the Corsa steering is almost Plug-n-Play... don't know if it's true...

Yes the corsa unit is very easy to fit, you need a control box to run it, I can supply these, they have to tell the corsa steering ecu that is is connected to a car, or it will turn itself off after a few minutes, the control box I make has a potentiometer to control the weight of the steering. let me know if you are interested. I have supplied over 30 of thse units to autotesters all over Ireland and england. you just need to hook up a heavy 12 supply, I need the ECU then fit my control box to it, with 40A relay etc.
